MOM told us to dress conservatively if we want people to respect us for who we are in the proverbial. Women also often told that far too many showed skin invites trouble. But a new study shows that when it comes to the correlation between the body should be expressed and taken seriously, men need to cover, as well.
Also surprising is the finding that the more revealing attire might make others less likely to hurt you–which flies in the face of the argument that women dressed in provocative effectively asking to be attacked. While the subject is wearing clothes that little or no thought to be “less morally responsible” (thereby strengthening the advice from mothers everywhere to cover), gray wrote, “someone else seems to be less inclined to harm people with bare skin are more likely to protect them. In one experiment, for example, people who view the male subjects with their shirts from being less inclined to give electric shocks are uncomfor than when people have their shirt subjects. “
The study results support the idea that far too many showed skin is a bad idea at work – for men and women. As gray wrote, “the perception of the body can lead people characterized in terms of their body to be seen as more reactive and emotional, traits that may also serve to work against progress career.” But the findings may mean good news for Your sex life: “Focus on the body, and the perception of increased sensitivity and the emotions it elicits,” gray wrote, “might be good for lovers.”
